Summer School Courses
Every summer people from all over Britain, and some
from overseas, come to Oxford University,
www.ox.ac.uk for relaxed, enjoyable, but serious
study
with some
of
the
finest tutors in the country. For over 100 years these summer schools have
been opening the doors of the University, making it possible for everyone
to
take
advantage of the Oxford system of expert tuition in small groups.
The summer schools consist of separate one-week courses. Each course begins on Saturday afternoon and finishes on the following Friday evening after a special final dinner. Residents leave after breakfast on the Saturday morning. It is also possible to attend the summer schools on a non-residential basis.

Rewley House is the home of Oxford University Department for Continuing Education, www.conted.ox.ac.uk and is situated close to the city centre and other colleges. Here students can experience life in a residential college equipped with seminar rooms, a lecture theatre, an extensive library and reading room, a dining hall, common room and bar. In the centre of the buildings is an attractive courtyard garden.
Coursework: On enrolment you will receive preliminary guidance for your study with a reading list. You will be expected to write an essay of about 1,500 words before your arrival at the summer school so that you can make the most of your time in Oxford. During your week in Oxford you will be expected to undertake some further coursework. All courses are accredited through the Credit Accumulation Transfer Scheme (CATS) and these points can be used towards degrees at many other universities.
Bursaries towards the cost of the summer school may be available for people receiving benefit or on low incomes, but please apply for these by 30 March 2009.
Leisure: Alongside time spent in serious study, there will be opportunities to visit other colleges, to explore Oxford’s museums, art galleries, theatres and concert venues, as well as to go punting or visiting the local pubs.
